Cardiac screenings

Male taking a pre participation screen testCardiac screenings are performed in an attempt to identify abnormalities in the heart that may put athletes at risk whilst performing sports.

There are certain heart abnormalities that are associated with sudden cardiac death in young athletes which can be detected by a simple screening.

Cardiac screenings are performed by recording an Electrocardiogram (ECG) and completing a questionnaire, and as necessary an Echocardiagram (ultrasound) if indicated.

If there has been a young (under 35) sudden death in the family, the family is entitled to be screened on the NHS.

At Rob Leather Physiotherapy we can arrange for Cardiac screenings to be performed and reported by Sports Cardiologists, with the help of our partners Physiological Measurements.
